How can I make a thousand pound a day?

December 19, 2009

This brief update s to really share some of the flesh i’m putting on the bones of how i’ll actually be making money over the next year. Some of the terminology may not make any sense, and for those of you who it reads like double dutch, i will be introducing a glossary page to this blog over the next week or so. If you have a burning question, then just leave a comment and i’ll be happy to reply!

So my immediate quick wins will be through pay per click marketing – or PPC as it shall be known hereafter. PPC is a way to instantly drive traffic to a web page – the only downside is you pay everytime somebody clicks your ad.

The highest amount of traffic can be got from something called Google Adwords – this is the site that lets you pay for ads on Google. I won’t go into anymore detail right now, as the detail will come when I start to launch my campaigns.

Secondly i’ll be building 4 sites over the course of the year, with a view to SEO’ing them and monetising them from the organic traffic they’ll receive.

Thirdly, i’ll be using something called contextual advertising, which is a bit like PPC, but you serve your ad in a number of different ways.

Fourthly – any other opportunities that I spot during the course of the year!!!

A rough guess, i’ll say that65% of my revenue by the end of the year will come from PPC, SEO will be 25% and contextual 10%.

Go ahead and ask questions!!!

What is Affiliate Marketing?

December 18, 2009

A majority of the money I will make will be via affiliate marketing – but what on earth is Affiliate Marketing? Basically, if you send traffic ( visitors ) to a transactional website, and the visitors you send then make a purchase, you receive a commission payment. Sounds simple!

Think of how Avon works – the lady drops of catalogues, if you then buy some Avon products via her, Avon pays her a commission fee based on how much she sales – affiliate marketing is exactly the same!

There are affiliate programs for just about everything you can imagine – poker, bingo, dating, flowers, insurance, groceries, gaming, music downloads – you name it and there’s an affiliate program for it.

Some industries are much more competitive than others – for example, online poker is massively competitive because the commissions involved are high. On the other hand, a site selling wooden aeroplane models wouldn’t have the same level of competition – because the commissions are lower and because there isn’t the same level of people looking for that product!

During the course of the next year, i’ll be dipping into lots of industries – i’ll reveal everything in my blog. A great scenerio would be to earn £1000 a day across 100 different affiliate programs – why? Because if any one program stops performing well, i’m only losing 1% of my revenue. If I make £1000 a day all from one program, and then the program shuts down or changes its commission structure – I could be stuffed. So i’ll definitely be looking to spread my risk!

If you want some more info about affiliate marketing, I think Wikipedia sums it up well here : Wikipedia Affiliate Marketing Link

What is this blog all about? Making £1000 a day – hopefully!

December 18, 2009

Hi and welcome to my blog – if you’ve stumbled across it, you’re probably wondering what its all about – so here comes a little bit of a long winded explanation! Hopefully I’ll keep your attention long enough!!

2009 has been a tricky year for a lot  of people, myself included – the recession has hit most businesses and for me it unfortunately meant winding up the company I was a Managing Director of, losing staff – which was incredibly hard and draining.

So I’m determined to make 2010 a better year, and this blog is in part a way of making sure I focus and carry out all the initiatives and plans I have.

So first of all, a little bit about me – I’m keeping anonymous for the time being – and i’ll be completely honest now, if I fail, i’m afraid of the shame i’ll feel. I have had 1 failed business in 2009, and a second failure in 2010 will be just horrible. I’m glad I have this fear, as the fear will drive me on – it already is.

So I work and am an expert in online marketing – I have worked in the online gaming industry ( poker and bingo ) which is incredibly competitive, and I have also worked in the ecommerce sector running a large catalogue shopping website.

My experience has given me a great skill set in pay per click marketing, seo ( search engine optimisation ) and as an affiliate manager and an affiliate myself.

I can build websites – i’m not the best designer, but I tend to get there in the end.

Now I know affiliates out there who earn over a million pound a month – fact. It happens, and there are a lot more internet millionaires than you probably imagine. A lot of these guys are 1 or 2 man bands, and they just do what they do incredibly well. My aim over the course of 2010 is to build my daily revenue ( net ) to be £1000 a day – a massive target, but definitely achievable.

I’m starting from £0 a day right now, so it’ll be really interesting to see how I can get this project off the ground. The way its going to work is at the end of every month, i’ll average out my earnings over that month, and that will give me my earnings per day.

All well and good, but exactly how am I going to make this money? Well, through a combination of SEO, PPC and contextual marketing – i’m working on the business plan over Xmas, and the project kicks off on Jan 4th.

In this blog, i’ll be detailing what i’m doing, my accounts and how its going. I’d love to build up an audience who can support me, give advice and even knock me down when something isn’t right – so if you are reading this, are interested and want to follow me, then pass it onto any friends as well!

I’ll be posting my business plan sometime over the next 5 days – the journey has begun, wish me luck!
